The Constitutional Law Society of Tamil Nadu National Law University, Tiruchirapalli organised its first lecture for the Academic Year 2019-2020 on the 22nd August 2019.

Hon’ble Justice Mr. S.Thurairaja PC,Judge, Supreme Court of Sri Lanka was the Guest and the lecture was themed on “Professional Etiquette and Attitude”.

Justice Thurairaja, in his lecture, emphasized on the importance of the Constitution and phrased it rightly as the ‘seed of a nation’s legal system’. Apart from this, he stressed on the importance of court manners, court etiquettes and professionalism. He parallelly narrated various interesting anecdotes from his professional life to elucidate upon various court practices & manners.  

Justice Thurairaja holds a distinguished feat of being the 1st Indian Origin Tamil to be appointed as an Additional Solicitor General in Sri Lanka, since 1796, and was the 1st Indian Origin Tamil to be appointed as a President’s Counsel throughout the history of the Sri Lankan Legal system. Since the creation of the Superior Courts of Sri Lanka (formerly known as Ceylon) in 1802 he is the 1st Indian Origin Tamil to be appointed as a Judge to both the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
