Spiritus, India’s biggest law school sports fest, is back! In its XVIIth edition, Spiritus is the much needed respite from the hectic life at law school. The National Law School campus and Sports Authority of India’s grounds will witness over two thousand people coming from across law colleges in the country to compete in an array of sports to bring glory to their institutions. This year Spiritus is reintroducing hockey to the list of activities that includes athletics and sports such as football, basketball, volleyball, tug of war, tennis, swimming, squash, etc.

To those who want to take some time out from the arduous training sessions that weekend, Spiritus highly recommends that they make a pit stop at our entertainment partner – Smaaash. They have an impressive mix of gaming activities to choose from such as bowling, racing games, VR simulators, and simulated sports such as cricket and football.

Spiritus is renowned not just for its sheer magnitude in terms of organisation and participation, but also for the fact that this participation is for purely sporting activities. Whether it’s a “traditional” sport such as football or a more “contemporary” game of Counter Strike, Spiritus has always been for sportsperson from various law colleges to compete and shine. The most awaited event of the year remains uniquely dedicated to just sports unmixed with any cultural activities. Held from the 20th to 22nd of August this year, Spiritus will see many stalwarts descend to Nagarbhavi and displays of stellar sportsmanship over the course of those three days.

Spiritus, however, is much more than what happens in the field. Spiritus is a rite of passage for a first year barely two months into law school. It’s those three days when s/he doesn’t mind waking up early to help dry the courts or running around in the sweltering sun to deliver roses (That’s if they had an option in the first place). Jokes apart, everyone in law school has fond memories of their time being involved in the three best days of the academic calendar. Deepanshi, last year’s Sports Committee convenor, reminisces, ‘Standing at the basketball court at the end of the day and chanting “Appa illa, amma illa, boss enga Law School”, running from campus to SAI to get a match started, staying up till 2 a.m making schedules….The fervour, the enthusiasm and the heady feeling of your months of efforts culminating into a successful event are unmatched.’

Spiritus 2017 is back on August 20th-22nd. It promises to be bigger and better. Mark the dates!
