The 7th edition of the National Law School Model United Nations conference was held from April 8th to 10th at the National Law School of India University campus in Bangalore. This year, at NLSMUN 2016, the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations General Assembly – Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNGA-COPUOS), the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), and the All-India Parties Meet (AIPM) were simulated. Participation saw delegates from different parts of the country, and an unprecedented standard of debate and diplomacy. The following agendas were the topic of debate:

  1. WHO: a) Rebuilding health systems in the wake of Ebola and Zika virus with special emphasis on developing nations.
  2. b) Global Initiative on Health and Sustainable development.
  3. UNGA – COPUOS: a) The use of nuclear power sources in outer space – Revisiting the 1992 NPS Principles and the Liability Convention.
  4. b) Discussion on the militarisation of space programs with an emphasis on emerging government space agencies and the militarisation capabilities of the same.
  5. UNSC: a) Discussing the efficacy and legitimacy of the UNSC’s operations with specific reference to: (i) The due process in levying sanctions, especially non- economic; (ii) The lack of effective implementation of policies and resolutions.
  6. b) Addressing the question of increasing tangible and ideological security threats on the internet of things.
  7. AIPM: a. Revisiting Section 124A, Indian Penal Code.
  8. The relevance of the creamy layer in reservations today: issues of communal discord.
