Nigavekar, former Chairman, UGC <\/span>was constituted by the Central Government in<span> the larger public interest<span>&nbsp;for <\/span>selection of the most meritorious, talented and quality manpower<span>&nbsp;t<\/span>o the teaching profession.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p ><span lang=\"EN-US\">The Objective of the Committee is:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul  type=\"disc\">\n<li   ><span lang=\"EN-US\">to evaluate the Academic      Performance Indicator (API) Scheme as regards the entry point and career      advancement of teachers by taking into account its criticism and suggest      suitable improvements\/alternatives.<span>&nbsp;<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li   ><span><span lang=\"EN-US\">to      evaluate <\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Ph.D-NET qualifications for entry      of teachers and to accordingly suggest a policy for selections.<span>&nbsp;<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li   ><span><span lang=\"EN-US\">to consider <\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">the problems and issues related to Ad-hoc and      Contractual appointments in <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:placename w:st=\"on\">Central<\/st1:placename>       <st1:placetype w:st=\"on\">Universities<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> and      recommendations to resolve them.<span>&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p ><span><span lang=\"EN-US\">The Committee is required to <\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">submit its report within a period of two months from the date of its constitution.<\/span><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p ><b><span
