On 18-02-2014, the Waqf Properties (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Bill, 2014 was introduced in the Rajya Sabha. The Bill contains 23 Sections. The objective of the Bill is to bring uniformity throughout the country with respect to the waqf property and to provide for a speedy mechanism for eviction of unauthorised occupants from the waqf properties. The Bill contains provisions relating to the power of the Waqf Estate Officer in case of temporary occupation or unauthorised occupation of any waqf property; procedure to be followed in taking possession; procedure to remove or demolish unauthorised construction and recovery of the cost\/ expenses incurred; power to dispose of the property left on the waqf property by the unauthorised occupants; assessment of arrears of rent and damages and the rate of interest payable; power to appeal; offences and penalty for contravention of the provisions etc. The Bill is intended to bar the jurisdiction of the Civil Court in entertaining any suit or proceeding, and also to empower the Central Government to make rules for carrying out the provisions of the proposed legislation.<\/p>\n
