National Law University Delhi on September 19th<\/sup>, organized a one-day Colloquium, celebrating 75 years of the illustrious journey of Prof.(Dr.) Mahendra Pal Singh, popularly known as MP Singh, considered as one of the foremost constitutional law scholar and an authority on the subject. The colloquium was organized on the topic \u201cThe journey of the Indian Constitution: We the People and Free Markets\u201d and was a conception of his former students from India as well as abroad. Hon\u2019ble Vice Chancellor of NLU Delhi, Prof. (Dr.) Ranbir Singh opened the Colloquium by delivering the welcome address and Hon\u2019ble Mr. Justice A.K. Sikri, Judge, Supreme Court of India gave the key note address and also presented a memento to Prof. (Dr.) M.P. Singh.<\/o:p><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

Prof.(Dr.) MP Singh is widely known in the academic fraternity for being the revising author of \u2018VN Shukla\u2019s Constitution of India\u2019, a classic textbook on the Indian Constitution. Internationally, he is widely acclaimed as a renowned comparative constitutional law and comparative administrative law academic and has authored a primer on the topic of Comparative Law which is \u2018Comparative Constitutional Law\u2019. Professor Singh has been a fellow and visiting professor at several institutions and universities of international repute.<\/span> Prof.(Dr.) MP Singh is also the Chair Professor at the Centre for Comparative Law at National Law University Delhi.<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

The Colloquium which was organized on the subject \u201cThe journey of the Indian Constitution: We the People and Free Markets\u201d sought to comprehend various aspects of the issue and tried to put into perspective the journey of the Indian Constitution vis-\u00e0-vis, \u2018We the people\u2019 signifying the democratic and the republic institution of the nation representing the continual personality of the Indian polity and the \u2018Free Market Economy\u2019 referring to the economic policies adopted in the early 1990\u2019s by the Indian Government in the changing milieu of constitutional governance of the country. All of the presenters were the former students of Prof.(Dr.) MP Singh and deliberated upon the aforementioned theme from distinct viewpoints and considerations. The event concluded with the dinner speech by Prof. C. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Jindal Global University.
