Supreme Court: <\/b>In an important order that can have major implications upon the future of the investigations of the notorious 2G Scam, the three Judge Bench of H.L. Dattu, C.J., M.B. Lokur and A.K. Sikri, JJ., directed Ranjit Sinha the current Director of Central Bureau of Investigation to not to interfere into the investigation and prosecution and excuse himself from the case of 2G spectrum allocation. The Court further directed that the senior most officer of the investigating team, constituted by the CBI shall investigate into the case and continue the proceedings further. The Court further stated that it is deliberately not laying down elaborate reasons for the Order so as to protect the sanctity of the institution of CBI and the office of the Director of CBI and prevent its image from being tarnished.<\/p>\n

Further in the issue of several newspapers reporting about Ranjit Singh accusing DIG Santosh Rastogi of leaking the information related to the case to Prashant Bhushan, noted advocate and distinguished member of Aam Aadmi Party, the Court accepted the affidavit presented by Prashant Bhushan clearing Rastogi\u2019s name.     <\/p>\n

In the present case an application was made by Centre for Public Interest Litigation praying to the Court to direct the CBI Director to excuse himself from the investigation of 2G Spectrum Allocation Scam. The NGO was represented by noted counsel Prashant Bhushan while the respondents were represented by Vikas Singh. Anand Grover, Special Public Prosecutor appointed by the Court for the 2G Spectrum case, was also present. <\/span>Centre for PIL<\/i> v. <\/span>Union<\/i><\/st1:place><\/font> of India<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region><\/font>; <\/i>2014 SCC OnLine SC 921<\/a><\/font><\/span>,<\/font> decided on 20.11.2014<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n
