14th Convocation for the NALSAR University of Law was held on Saturday, 6th of August. CJI T.S. Thakur presided over as the Chief Guest. Other guests included \u00a0Justice Ramesh Ranganathan, Acting CJ for the High Court of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh at Hyderabad, Justice P. V. Reddi, former chairman of Law Commission of India and Justice S. S. N Quadri, former Judge, Supreme Court of India.<\/p>\n
Delivering the convocation address, Justice Thakur\u00a0stressed that \u201caccess to justice\u201d should become a reality and advised the students of Nalsar to work towards speedy administration of justice than joining the multi-national companies. He was delivering the 14th convocation address at the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research Law University.<\/p>\n
Justice Thakur said, \u201cAfter getting a degree you may be excited. But you have to look for much higher value. Satisfaction for a lawyer comes when he thinks and works for a point and eventually wins the case. Satisfaction will be a part of the process of the administration of justice.\u201d<\/p>\n
The CJI hoped that 10 per cent of the new graduates would join the teaching profession.\u00a0 He said that after graduation, many students would look towards the West for higher studies since there were no centres of excellence in the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have the capacity to build our own institutions if 10 per cent of the candidates join the teaching profession, he said. The CJI said more than 3 crore cases were pending. The pendency of cases for the 10 to 20 years were in lakhs. There were 18,000 judges to deal with them, he said.<\/p>\n
Tanya Choudary hailing from Jaipur, Rajasthan, has set a record by receiving 17 gold medals at the 14th annual convocation of Nalsar University of Law. Tanya, who already works for a law firm, Shardul Amarchanda Mangaldas in New Delhi, holds a BA LLB degree.<\/p>\n
Tanya stated that she was delighted to receive so many medals. She said, \u201cWhile I knew two days prior to the convocation that I would get 16 gold medals, the last one which was the Vice-Chancellor\u2019s gold medal for the best outgoing female student of the varsity came as a surprise.\u201d<\/p>\n
Another student, Harshit Neotia won six medals during the convocation, which conferred degrees to 536 students. However only 252 students attended the event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
