{"id":398149,"date":"2026-10-08T11:00:37","date_gmt":"2026-10-08T05:30:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=398149"},"modified":"2026-10-08T14:30:49","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T09:00:49","slug":"manoj-kumar-tiwari-appointed-acting-chief-justice-uttaranchal-high-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2026\/10\/08\/manoj-kumar-tiwari-appointed-acting-chief-justice-uttaranchal-high-court\/","title":{"rendered":"President appoints Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari as Acting Chief Justice of Uttaranchal High Court"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: 150%;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Ministry of Law and Justice, Department of Justice (Appointments Division), Government of India<\/span> notified the appointment of <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari<\/span> as Acting Chief Justice of the Uttaranchal High Court through a notification dated <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">6 October 2026<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The appointment has been made under <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink.aspx?q=JTXT-0001574965\" target=\"_blank\">223<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink.aspx?q=JTXT-0002726967\" target=\"_blank\">Constitution of India<\/a><\/span> and will take effect from <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">9 October 2026<\/span>, following the retirement of <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta<\/span> on 8 October 2026.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%; text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/11_Justice-Manoj-Kumar-Tiwari-appointed-Acting-Chief-Justice-of-Uttarakhand-High-Court-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"493\"\/><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari has been a Judge of the Uttaranchal High Court since <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">May 2017<\/span>, when he was elevated as a permanent Judge. He was born on 19 September 1965 in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, and belongs to a family of lawyers. He completed his LL.B. from the University of Delhi in 1990 and began practising at the Allahabad High Court before moving to Uttarakhand following the establishment of the State in 2000. He was designated a Senior Advocate in 2009 and served as President of the High Court Bar Association, Nainital, in 2008.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari has previously discharged the duties of Acting Chief Justice of the Uttaranchal High Court. He served in that capacity from <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">27 October 2023 to 3 February 2024<\/span> and was again appointed Acting Chief Justice with effect from <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">11 October 2024<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%; text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/11_Justice-Manoj-Kumar-Tiwari-appointed-Acting-Chief-Justice-of-Uttarakhand-High-Court-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"560\"\/><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta was appointed Chief Justice of the Uttaranchal High Court in January 2026 and assumed charge on 10 January 2026.
