On 25 September 2026, the Ministry of Labour and Employment notified an amendment to the Employees’ Pension Scheme, 2026<\/span>, introducing a new category of employees eligible for membership.<\/p>\n

The amendment is deemed to have come into force on 17 September 2026.<\/p>\n

Key Amendments:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. \n

    The amendment has been issued under Section 15(1)(b) of the Code on Social Security, 2020<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    Paragraph 7(1) of the Employees’ Pension Scheme, 2026 has been amended by inserting a new clause (iii), thereby expanding the categories of persons eligible for membership of the Scheme.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. \n

    The amendment extends the coverage of the Employees’ Pension Scheme, 2026 to a new category of employees.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  4. \n

    Accordingly, employees who are members of the Employees’ Provident Funds Scheme, 2026 but are not covered under the Employees’ Pension Scheme, 2026, will become eligible for pension scheme membership<\/span> if their wages are equal to or below the wage ceiling notified by the Central Government.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  5. \n

    The amendment expands pension coverage by making certain EPF members within the notified wage ceiling eligible for membership of the Employees’ Pension Scheme, 2026<\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
