{"id":397331,"date":"2026-09-28T15:30:26","date_gmt":"2026-09-28T10:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=397331"},"modified":"2026-09-28T15:46:26","modified_gmt":"2026-09-28T10:16:26","slug":"advocates-on-record-examination-december-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2026\/09\/28\/advocates-on-record-examination-december-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Supreme Court schedules December 2026 AOR examination for re-appearing candidates; Apply by 15 October"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: 150%;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">On 25 September 2026, the Supreme Court of India announced the schedule for the Advocates-on-Record Examination &#8212; December 2026, to be conducted exclusively for candidates eligible to re-appear under Regulation 11(i) or 11(ii) of the Regulations regarding Advocates-on-Record Examination.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">Applications may be submitted from <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">1 October 2026 to 15 October 2026<\/span> in the AOR Examination Cell, Room No. 308, Administrative Buildings Complex, Supreme Court of India, New Delhi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Key Details:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\">\n<li>\n<p>The notification has been issued under Rules 5(i) and (ii) of Order IV of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink.aspx?q=JTXT-0002844032\" target=\"_blank\">Supreme Court Rules, 2013<\/a> read with Regulation 2 of the Regulations regarding Advocates-on-Record Examination.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The Advocates-on-Record Examination&#8212;December 2026 will be held on <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">19, 20, 22 and 23 December 2026<\/span> at New Delhi.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The examination is open only to candidates eligible to re-appear under Regulation 11(i) or 11(ii) arising from the results of the AOR Examination&#8212;June 2025 and earlier examinations.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Eligible candidates may either:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>\n<p>Re-appear in the paper(s) in which they were unsuccessful; or<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Opt to appear in the entire examination afresh. The option exercised at the time of application will be final and binding.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Eligible candidates may apply for the Advocates-on-Record Examination &#8212; December 2026 between <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">1 and 15 October 2026, with applications closing at 5:00 PM on 15 October<\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The examination comprises four papers:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>\n<p>Practice and Procedure of the Supreme Court;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Drafting;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Advocacy and Professional Ethics; and<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Leading Cases.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>No application or representation seeking re-evaluation of answer sheets will be entertained under Regulation 12.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Candidates who are allotted roll numbers but remain absent may be treated as not sufficiently prepared and may be debarred from subsequent examinations except with the permission of the Board of Examiners.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>A candidate who fails in all papers of the examination will not be permitted to appear in the next examination under Regulation 11(iii).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Candidates who do not appear in all the papers and fail in any paper in which they have appeared will be treated as having failed in all the papers, including the papers they did not appear in.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Candidates are generally restricted to five attempts, although the December 2021 examination will not be counted as an attempt pursuant to a one-time relaxation.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The AOR Examination&#8212;December 2026 will be conducted through pen-and-paper mode only.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Notice I: Paper II (Drafting)<\/p>\n<p>The syllabus covers petitions for special leave, petitions of appeal, statements of cases, decrees, orders and writs. It also includes:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>\n<p>Plaints and written statements in suits under Article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink.aspx?q=JTXT-0001574858\" target=\"_blank\">131<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink.aspx?q=JTXT-0002726967\" target=\"_blank\">Constitution<\/a>;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Review petitions under Article 137;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Transfer petitions under Section <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink.aspx?q=JTXT-0001523764\" target=\"_blank\">25<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink.aspx?q=JTXT-0002726944\" target=\"_blank\">CPC, 1908<\/a>, Article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink.aspx?q=JTXT-0001574868\" target=\"_blank\">139<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink.aspx?q=JTXT-0002726967\" target=\"_blank\">Constitution<\/a> and Section <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink.aspx?q=JTXT-9001804179\" target=\"_blank\">446<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink.aspx?q=JTXT-9001804327\" target=\"_blank\">Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023<\/a>;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Contempt petitions under Article 129; and<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">Interlocutory applications, including bail, condonation of delay, exemption from surrender and revocation of special leave.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Notice II: Paper III (Advocacy and Professional Ethics)<\/p>\n<p>The indicative syllabus covers:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>\n<p>Professional ethics, the legal profession, advocacy, its history, purposes and development;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink.aspx?q=JTXT-0002806286\" target=\"_blank\">Advocates Act, 1961<\/a>, Bar Council of India Rules, professional conduct, etiquette and misconduct;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Duties of advocates, conflict of interest, confidentiality, lawyer-client relationships and professional negligence;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Legal services, equal justice, commercialisation of the profession and comparative professional ethics;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Advocacy in the adversarial system, criminal defence and prosecutorial ethics;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Counselling, negotiation, mediation and ethical considerations; and<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">Supreme Court practice, duties of Advocates-on-Record, adjournments, contempt of court and the profession&#8217;s role in the administration of justice.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Notice III: Paper IV (Leading Cases)<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>\n<p>Headnotes of the prescribed leading cases will be provided by the Registry in the examination hall and must be returned to the invigilators after the examination. Candidates must not underline or mark them.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The syllabus prescribes 86 leading cases covering significant constitutional, civil, criminal, commercial, arbitration, insolvency and administrative law decisions of the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">Headnotes of the prescribed cases are available on the official website of the Supreme Court of India.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Application &amp; Eligibility Highlights<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>\n<p>Candidates must submit a duly filled application form, recent photograph, self-attested enrolment certificate and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">proof of payment of the &#8377;750 examination fee<\/span> by 5:00 PM on <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">15 October 2026<\/span>, failing which the application will not be accepted.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Eligible PwBD\/PwD candidates may avail a scribe facility subject to prescribed medical certification;
