style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">On 14 September 2026, the Ministry of Finance issued a notification specifying <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">RuPay debit card transactions and UPI transactions up to &#8377;2,000 as electronic modes of payment<\/span> and prohibiting banks and system providers from levying charges on such transactions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Key Clarifications:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\">\n<li>\n<p>The notification was issued under Section <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink.aspx?q=JTXT-9000260195\" target=\"_blank\">10A<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink.aspx?q=JTXT-0002742146\" target=\"_blank\">Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The Central Government has specified the following electronic modes of payment under the Act:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">RuPay<\/span> debit card transactions; and<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">UPI<\/span> transactions up to &#8377;2,000.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>It also prohibits banks and system providers from imposing any charge, directly or indirectly, on persons making or receiving payments through these modes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The charge prohibition applies to both the payer and the recipient using the specified payment modes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p
