The Society of International Law and Policy (SILP), West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata<\/span>, invites original and engaging blog submissions for a Special Edition of the SILP Blog<\/span> commemorating the 80th anniversary of the International Court of Justice (ICJ)<\/span>.<\/p>\n

The ICJ, the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, held its inaugural sitting in April 1946 and has, over the past eight decades, played a central role in the peaceful settlement of disputes between States and the development and clarification of international law. In marking its 80th anniversary in 2026, the Court has itself reflected on its evolving role and the challenges facing the international legal order.<\/p>\n

Against this backdrop, SILP invites contributions that critically examine the past, present, and future of the ICJ<\/span>, particularly in light of contemporary challenges to the international legal order and an increasingly complex and changing world order.<\/p>\n

THEME<\/p>\n

“Commemorating 80 Years of the International Court of Justice: The Court’s Role in Contemporary International Law Amidst a Changing World Order and Its Future”<\/p>\n

The Special Edition seeks to encourage critical and contemporary perspectives on the Court’s jurisprudence, institutional role, challenges, and future trajectory. Contributors may explore, inter alia<\/span>, the Court’s contribution to the development of international law, its engagement with emerging areas of international law, questions of jurisdiction and compliance, the legitimacy and effectiveness of international adjudication, and the Court’s role in addressing contemporary global challenges.<\/p>\n

Contributors are not restricted to the above areas<\/span> and are encouraged to explore innovative and interdisciplinary perspectives that meaningfully engage with the theme.<\/p>\n
