The SAMADHAN SAMAROH 2026<\/span>, undertaken under the guidance of the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India<\/span> to promote mediated, consensual and amicable resolution of disputes, concluded on 23 August 2026<\/span> with the conclusion of the three-day Special Lok Adalat at the Supreme Court of India. A total of 1,712 cases were disposed of, including 48 cases resolved through mediation.<\/p>\n

The initiative, Supreme Court Action for Mediated Adjudication and Disputes Harmonization Across Nation<\/span> (SAMADHAN), commenced on 21 April 2026 with a structured pre-settlement process to identify pending matters having potential for amicable resolution. Litigants and their counsel were engaged in advance to explore settlement.<\/p>\n

3,285 cases listed, 1,664 settled\/disposed of during three-day Special Lok Adalat<\/p>\n

During the three-day Special Lok Adalat held from 21 to 23 August 2026, a total of 3,285 cases were listed, out of which 1,664 cases were settled\/disposed of. A further 48 cases were solved through mediation, taking the total number of cases disposed of to 1,712.<\/p>\n

A total amount of Rs. 2,40,94,37,087.38<\/span> was settled during the three-day period<\/span>. The release further states that cases were also disposed of amicably between 21 April 2026 to 20 August 2026, without waiting for listing during the Special Lok Adalat.<\/p>\n

Chief Justice of India, Justice Surya Kant presides over Lok Adalat Benches<\/p>\n

The Benches of the Lok Adalat were presided over by Chief Justice Surya Kant<\/span>. Senior Judges and other Judges, Senior Advocates, Advocates-on-Record, and other Advocates were members of the Lok Adalat Benches. The Benches were assisted by Senior Registrars and other officials of the Supreme Court Registry and endeavored to persuade the parties to arrive at an amicable settlement of their own volition.<\/p>\n

Matrimonial, property, motor accident, tax, service and labour disputes among matters taken up<\/p>\n

The Special Lok Adalat covered wide range of matters amenable to settlement, including matrimonial and property disputes, motor accident claims, land acquisition and compensation matters, tax matters, and service and labour disputes pending before the Supreme Court of India. The SAMADHAN initiative was not confined to the three days of Lok Adalat sittings, but a broader institutional process was undertaken<\/span> wherein cases were identified, parties were engaged, and possibilities of settlement were explored in advance.<\/p>\n

Initiative seeks to promote consensual dispute resolution and reduce pendency<\/p>\n

The initiative highlighted the advantages of Lok Adalats in enabling parties to resolve disputes through consent and dialogue, reducing the time and cost associated with prolonged litigation, providing greater certainty and finality to litigants, and helping reduce pendency. The process also enabled judicial time to be conserved for matters requiring adjudication.<\/p>\n

The conclusion of SAMADHAN SAMAROH 2026 marks an important step in the Supreme Court’s continuing endeavour, under the leadership and guidance of the Chief Justice Surya Kant, to promote mediation, settlement and other consensual methods of dispute resolution and to make justice delivery more accessible, expeditious and litigant-oriented, with consensual dispute resolution being strengthened as an effective component of the justice delivery system.<\/span><\/p>\n
