The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has appointed Justice Yogesh Khanna<\/span> as the Officiating Chairperson<\/span> of National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) w.e.f 5 July 20261<\/sup><\/a>. As per media reports, Ministry issued the appointment notification on 8 July 2026. According to the mandate of Rule 7 of the Tribunal (Conditions of Service) Rules, 2021<\/a>, the Central Government is competent to appoint an Officiating Chairperson in case there is a vacancy.<\/p>\n

Justice Yogesh Khanna<\/span>2<\/sup><\/a> was born on 31 December 1961. He obtained his B. Com (Hons.) from Delhi University in 1983; and thereafter, LL.B. from Campus Law Centre, Delhi in 1986. Justice Khanna began his career as an advocate at the District Courts, Delhi from 1986 itself.<\/p>\n

In 2000, Justice Khanna joined the Delhi Higher Judicial Service and during his tenure in the District Courts, he handled various cases including Nirbhaya rape case. Thereafter, Justice Khanna was elevated as Permanent Judge of Delhi High Court on 8 November 2016 and he retired on 30 December 2023.<\/p>\n

Post retirement, Justice Yogesh Khanna was appointed as Judicial Member of NCLAT on 19 February 20243<\/sup><\/a>.<\/p>\n

On 4 July 2026, former NCLAT Chairman, Justice Ashok Bhushan<\/a> concluded his tenure after attaining the statutorily mandated age of 70 years. Justice Yogesh Khanna will serve in this post till the appointment of Chairman takes place in accordance with the provisions of Sections 410<\/a> and 413<\/a> of the Companies Act, 2013<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
