{"id":388963,"date":"2026-07-01T13:00:56","date_gmt":"2026-07-01T07:30:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=388963"},"modified":"2026-07-01T12:29:07","modified_gmt":"2026-07-01T06:59:07","slug":"government-withdraws-petrol-diesel-sale-distribution-restrictions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2026\/07\/01\/government-withdraws-petrol-diesel-sale-distribution-restrictions\/","title":{"rendered":"Temporary Restrictions on Petrol and Diesel Sales Withdrawn; Normal Distribution Resumes from 1 July"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: 150%;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">On 29 June 2026, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) has announced the withdrawal of the temporary restrictions on the sale and distribution of Motor Spirit (Petrol) and High Speed Diesel (HSD) through retail outlets of Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">These measures will cease to operate with effect from 1 July 2026.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Why Were the Temporary Restrictions Introduced?<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">During the disruptions arising from the West Asia crisis, the Government continued to shield retail consumers from the sharp rise in international crude oil prices by maintaining stable retail prices of petrol and diesel. As a result, a significant price differential emerged between fuel sold through retail outlets and fuel supplied to bulk consumers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">This pricing disparity prompted certain industrial, commercial, and institutional consumers to procure fuel from retail outlets instead of designated consumer pumps.
