style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">On 22 May 2026, the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports<\/span> notified the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">National Sports Governance (National Sports Board) Rules, 2026<\/span> to reform and standardize the functioning of sports bodies in India by creating a <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">transparent, accountable, and athlete<\/span>&#8211;<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">centric governance system<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The provisions came into force on 25 May 2026.<\/p>\n<h2>All you need to know about the National Sports Board:<\/h2>\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\">\n<li>\n<p>These Rules come under the ambit of the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink\/w2Ly164W\">National Sports Governance Act, 2025<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Composition:<\/span> Central Government will appoint the Chairperson and two members of the Board from the panel of names recommended by the Search-cum-Selection Committee.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\">The Chairperson and the members will:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>\n<p>Declare their assets, liabilities, and financial interests before starting their job and then every year.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Also confirm that they do not have any financial or other interests that could affect their work or decisions unfairly.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Term of Office:<\/span> the Chairperson and every Member will serve for three years or until they turn 65 years of age, whichever comes first.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Restrictions during tenure:<\/span> They cannot hold any position in:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>\n<p>International Sports Bodies;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>National Sports Bodies;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Their affiliated units;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>National Sports Promotion Organizations.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Re-appointment process:<\/span> If the Chairperson or a Member is to be re-appointed, the selection will follow the rules of the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Search-cum-Selection Committee 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Eligibility for re-appointment:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>\n<p>They can be re-appointed only once, for one more term.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>This is subject to the age limit of 65 years.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The Chairperson and Members are <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">eligible to use the Central Government Health Scheme.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Functions of the Board:<\/span> The Board will:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>\n<p>Keep a list of members of the National Sports Election Panel.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Maintain a register of all affiliate units of National Sports Bodies.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>These records will be public documents; anyone can access them legally.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Additional Powers of the Board:<\/span> The Board can also:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>\n<p>Issue guidelines and rules for better sports governance.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Consult stakeholders, athletes, officials, organizations, on sports matters.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Suggest international best practices for improving sports governance.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">Organize training, workshops, seminars, and
