Mandatory 30-Minute Break Explained"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: 150%;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">On 13 May 2026, the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Ministry of Labour and Employment<\/span> issued a notification under Section 25(1)(b) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink\/M1G30o60\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"Hyperlink\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Occupational Safety Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020<\/span><\/a> whereby the Government mandated no continuous work of more than 5 hours without a break.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The notification came into force on 14 May 2026.<\/p>\n<h3>Main mandates:<\/h3>\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\">\n<li>\n<p>No continuous work of more than 5 hours without a break.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Compulsory half an hour minimum rest interval.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Section 25(1)(b)<\/span> dealing with<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> &#8220;Daily and weekly hours, leave etc.&#8221;<\/span> says that:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>\n<p>A worker cannot work more than 8 hours a day.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The Government will decide:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt; text-indent: -18pt;\">&#10003; How those hours are arranged;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt; text-indent: -18pt;\">&#10003; How long the breaks should be;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt; text-indent: -18pt;\">&#10003; The total spread of the workday.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Special rules for Mines:<\/span> workers underground:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt; text-indent: -18pt;\">&#10003; Cannot work beyond the daily hours set by the Central Government;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt; text-indent: -18pt;\">&#10003; Work must be done in shifts, no long continuous stretch;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt; text-indent: -18pt;\">&#10003; Cannot stay underground outside their assigned working hours.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Special Rules for Motor Transport Workers:<\/span> their working time includes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt; text-indent: -18pt;\">&#10003; Time spent driving the vehicle;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt; text-indent: -18pt;\">&#10003; Time spent on related duties;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt; text-indent: -18pt;
