On 12 May 2026, the University Grants Commission (UGC)<\/span> circulated a notification regarding the implementation of recommendations on the study of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita<\/a> (BNS)<\/span> in law curricula.<\/p>\n

    The notification was issued in reference to the recommendations made during the Directors General and Inspectors General of Police (DGs\/IGs) Conference 2025<\/span>, held from 28—30 November 2025.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    UGC has urged National Law Universities (NLUs)<\/span> and other premier legal institutions to study the benefits of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in bringing about a paradigm shift in the justice delivery system, particularly with emphasis on the use of forensic science<\/span>. <\/span> <\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Institutions have been encouraged not only to examine this shift but also to document their findings through case studies<\/span>, analysing how forensic methods and scientific evidence are shaping the justice system.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Accordingly, all universities and colleges offering law courses<\/span> are requested to initiate studies on this paradigm shift in the justice system, with a focus on the role of forensics under the BNS, and to ensure that the findings are published and incorporated into the curriculum. <\/span> <\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    The UGC has also requested all higher education institutions offering law programmes to take necessary measures to ensure compliance<\/span> and to provide updates on the steps taken<\/span> in this regard.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
