Chandigarh, March 14, 2026:<\/span> SVKM’s NMIMS School of Law, Chandigarh successfully hosted the 2nd National Moot Court Competition 2026<\/span> on March 13—14, 2026<\/span>, at the NMIMS Chandigarh campus. The prestigious competition brought together some of the brightest law students from across the country for a rigorous exercise in legal research, advocacy, and courtroom argumentation.<\/p>\n

The event commenced with a distinguished Inaugural Ceremony on March 13<\/span>, graced by Mr. Justice Rajesh Bindal<\/span> as the Chief Guest. The ceremony was also honoured by Mr. Justice Virender Singh<\/span> and Dr. Balram K. Gupta<\/span> as the Guests of Honour.<\/p>\n

The two-day national competition witnessed participation from 32 teams representing leading law institutions across India<\/span>, including Dharmashastra National Law University<\/span>, Symbiosis Law School Nagpur<\/span>, Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi<\/span>, National Law Institute University Bhopal<\/span>, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law Punjab<\/span>, Symbiosis Law School Noida<\/span>, Saveetha School of Law Chennai<\/span>, Maharashtra National Law University Nagpur<\/span>, Department of Laws Panjab University<\/span>, and University Institute of Legal Studies Panjab University<\/span>, among others.<\/p>\n

The moot proposition addressed complex legal issues at the intersection of Constitutional Law<\/span> and Intellectual Property Rights<\/span>, drawing inspiration from the landmark case University of Oxford v. Rameshwari Photocopy Service<\/span>, which examined the balance between copyright protection and access to educational material. The problem also referenced the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works<\/span>, a foundational treaty governing global copyright law.<\/p>\n

Following two days of rigorous memorial submissions, preliminary rounds, and intense courtroom-style arguments before esteemed judges and legal experts, the competition concluded with a Valedictory Ceremony on March 14<\/span>. The ceremony was presided over by Ms. Justice Ritu Bahri<\/span> as the Chief Guest and Mrs. Justice Sudeepti Sharma<\/span> as the Guest of Honour.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the event, Mr. Justice Rajesh Bindal<\/span> remarked that a moot court begins not merely with oral arguments but from the moment the proposition is assigned. He highlighted that even the simplest experiences, such as observing court proceedings, can be invaluable for aspiring lawyers. He also encouraged students to make effective use of judiciary websites and digital resources while cautioning them against becoming overly dependent on technology, emphasizing that learning is a lifelong process.<\/p>\n

Shri Jagdish B. Parikh<\/span> highlighted that moot courts simulate a real courtroom environment where students demonstrate advocacy, research, and legal reasoning—skills essential for future legal professionals. He noted that such initiatives play a crucial role in shaping well-rounded lawyers, reflecting SVKM NMIMS’s commitment to nurturing young talent through experiential learning opportunities beyond the classroom.<\/p>\n

In her address, Ms. Justice Ritu Bahri (Retd.)<\/span> emphasized the importance of “leading a life in the sun,” encouraging students to live with integrity, confidence, and purpose. She underlined that the ultimate goal of knowledge should be seva<\/span>, where legal expertise is used for the service of society and the guidance of future generations.<\/p>\n

At the conclusion of the competition, Symbiosis Law School, Noida<\/span> emerged as the Winner<\/span>, while USLLS, GGSIPU, Delhi<\/span> secured the Runner-Up position<\/span>.<\/p>\n
