Allahabad High Court:<\/span> While considering a writ petition concerning matters related to the offence of blackmailing innocent people by utilising women for springing a honey trap in Meerut Zone to extort innocent people, the Division Bench of J.J. Munir and Tarun Saxena, JJ., on its own motion, directed Inspector General of Police to conduct thorough investigation and to alert the entire district police chiefs to maintain strict vigil.<\/p>\n

In the present case, Petitioner 1 contacted Respondent 3 via WhatsApp, honey-trapped him with sweet talk, and took him to a hotel where she had carnal relations with him. She secretly recorded video clips and used them for blackmail. Other petitioners, in connivance with Petitioner 1, were policemen.<\/p>\n

After the video was captured, it was given to Petitioner 3, a ward member, who called the informant to his place where two policemen were present. They asked if he knew Petitioner 1 and showed him the deceitfully recorded video and communicated that Petitioner 1 demanded Rs 10,00,000, later suggesting settlement at Rs 8,00,000. The informant, distressed with fear and shame, did not pay but reported the matter to the police.<\/p>\n

After this matter was argued for a considerable period, petitioners made a prayer for withdrawing it which was supported by the informant.<\/p>\n

Acting on its own motion, the Court opined that this required thorough investigation to be undertaken by the Inspector General of Police and directed him to alert the entire district police chiefs in the zone to maintain strict vigil, if a gang of this kind is operating, or other gangs are also operating, blackmailing innocent people by utilising women for springing a honey trap, or in some other way, bringing about the same results.<\/p>\n

The Court dismissed the petition at hand and stated that “if offences like these are permitted to continue, it would become difficult to live in a decent world.<\/span>”<\/p>\n
