On 30 March 2026, the Delhi Government notified the Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Scheme Rules<\/span>, aiming to strengthen the social, educational, and financial security of girl children.<\/p>\n

The scheme came into effect on 1 April 2026, while deposits linked to the education of girl children will be implemented from the academic session 2026—27.<\/p>\n

Key highlights:<\/h2>\n

  1. \n

    This scheme replaces the earlier Delhi Ladli Scheme, 2008<\/span>, to enhance the social status, educational attainment, and long-term financial security of girl children, while preventing discrimination and early marriage.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    It is applicable to girls born in Delhi<\/span>, belonging to families with an annual income up to Rs. 1, 20,000<\/span>, limited to two girl children per family<\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. \n

    The eligibility of this scheme mentions Girls studying in government, MCD, NDMC, or government-recognized schools<\/span> in Delhi, as well as those pursuing ITI, Polytechnic, diploma, or graduation courses anywhere in India<\/span> from recognized institutions.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  4. \n

    The scheme provides milestone-linked financial assistance, starting at birth and continuing through key educational stages such as Class I, VI, IX, XI, XII, diploma, and graduation<\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  5. \n

    The accumulated financial assistance can reach Rs. 1 lakh or more<\/span>, redeemable when the beneficiary attains 18 or 21 years of age<\/span>, subject to fulfilment of prescribed conditions.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  6. \n

    The beneficiary is required to remain unmarried until the age of 18 years and complete mandatory immunization<\/span> as per government norms to continue receiving benefits.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  7. \n

    Special relaxations are provided for girls residing in government-run and licensed Child Care Institutions<\/span> (CCIs), where the State acts as the guardian.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  8. \n

    Applications and renewals under the scheme are to be submitted online through a dedicated portal, with direct benefit transfer to the girl child’s Aadhaar-linked bank account upon maturity.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
