Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) notified a significant update on the sale of <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Ethanol Blended Motor Spirit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The Ministry has directed the oil companies to sell <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Ethanol Blended Motor Spirit with ethanol content up to 20 percent (E20)<\/span>, in accordance with <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)<\/span> specifications and with a <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">minimum Research Octane Number (RON) of 95<\/span>, across all States and Union Territories.<\/p>\n<p>This notification is issued under the provisions of:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Essential Commodities Act, 1955<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold; margin-bottom: 3%;\">Motor Spirit and High Speed Diesel (Regulation of Supply and Distribution and Prevention of Malpractices), Order, 2005<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">It also states that, in special situations, the Government can allow oil companies to sell <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">20% ethanol blended petrol<\/span> that meets the BIS-required RON standards for a limited time and in specific regions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The mandate comes into force on <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">1 April 2026<\/span>, replacing the earlier 2021 notification that permitted blending of up to 10% ethanol
