the Government of Karnataka issued a notification regarding the mandatory collection of the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Gig Workers&#8217; Welfare Fee<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h3>Gig Workers&#8217; Welfare Fee Notification:<\/h3>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>\n<p>This notification sets out a structured mechanism through which platforms and aggregators are required to contribute towards the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">social security and welfare of gig and platform workers<\/span> across the state.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The objective of this notification is to:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li>\n<p>Extend social security benefits to gig and platform workers engaged through various digital intermediaries.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Mandate the levy and collection of a welfare fee from all platforms listed under Schedule I of the Act.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>These orders are issued under:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: 2025.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Under the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Karnataka Platform Based Gig Workers (Social Security and Welfare) Act, 2025<\/span>:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Section 2<\/span> defines what qualifies as an &#8220;Aggregator&#8221;, &#8220;Platform&#8221;, &#8220;Payout&#8221;, and &#8220;Welfare Fee&#8221;, establishing which entities must comply and what types of payments are covered under the welfare fee mechanism.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Section 20<\/span> mandates a welfare fee of <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">1%&#8212;5%<\/span> on every payout made by platforms\/aggregators to gig workers.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Section 21 introduces the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Payment and Welfare Fee Verification System (&#8216;PWFVS&#8217;)<\/span>, requiring all worker payouts and welfare fee quarterly, excluding &#8220;settled payments&#8221; like tips and incentives.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Welfare Fees:<\/h3>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type:
