Trial advocacy lies at the heart of courtroom practice, particularly at the trial court level where facts are tested, witnesses are examined, and justice begins its journey. Recognising the need to nurture strong foundational advocacy skills among law students—especially in regional languages—the Trial Advocacy Committee of the Tamil Nadu National Law University (TNNLU) proudly announces the 4th National Tamil Trial Advocacy Competition (NTTAC) 2026<\/span>, scheduled to be held from 28 February to 1 March 2026<\/span>.<\/p>\n

NTTAC has emerged as a unique national platform dedicated exclusively to trial court litigation conducted in Tamil, reaffirming the importance of regional language advocacy in India’s justice delivery system. As a flagship annual event of the Trial Advocacy Committee, the competition continues its commitment to bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world courtroom practice.<\/p>\n

A Vision Rooted in Language and Practice<\/h3>\n

The primary objective of NTTAC is to promote trial court litigation in Tamil and to encourage law students to develop fluency, confidence, and precision in conducting criminal trials in their mother tongue. In an era where legal education is often dominated by English-centric moot courts, NTTAC stands apart by creating an inclusive space that respects linguistic diversity while upholding professional excellence.<\/p>\n

The competition is open to law colleges across the country, offering students a rare opportunity to engage in criminal trial advocacy entirely in Tamil—right from opening statements and witness examinations to final arguments. By doing so, NTTAC not only preserves linguistic heritage but also prepares future advocates for effective practice before subordinate courts.<\/p>\n

Legacy of Excellence: Looking Back at the 3rd NTTAC, 2025<\/h3>\n

The 3rd National Tamil Trial Advocacy Competition (NTTAC)<\/span>, held on 22—23 February 2025<\/span>, set a strong benchmark for subsequent editions. The competition witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 17 teams<\/span> from various law colleges, all competing with remarkable dedication and courtroom finesse.<\/p>\n

The event was conducted under the esteemed guidance of Professor Dr. S. Amirthalingam, Dean of Postgraduate Studies<\/span> <\/span>(TNNLU), whose mentorship played a pivotal role in the success of the competition. The Valedictory Ceremony<\/span> was graced by<\/span> Mr. Muthukrishnan, Retired District Judge<\/span>, as the Chief Guest. His insightful address on the nuances of trial advocacy and the responsibilities of young advocates left a lasting impression on the participants. In terms of accolades, the SASTRA School of Law<\/span> emerged as the winners, with the Crescent School of Law<\/span> securing the runner-up position.<\/p>\n

What to Expect from the 4th Edition:<\/h3>\n

Building on the success of previous editions, the 4th NTTAC 2026<\/span> aims to raise the bar even higher. This edition features around 22 teams<\/span> competing against each other, and the moot proposition invokes provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012<\/a> (POCSO)<\/span> and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023<\/a> (BNS)<\/span>, offering participants an immersive, practice-oriented experience that mirrors real trial court proceedings.<\/p>\n

Students will be evaluated on advocacy skills, legal reasoning, courtroom etiquette, and their ability to handle witnesses and evidence effectively.<\/p>\n
