Supreme Court:<\/span> In a Miscellaneous Application filed Amicus Curiae in Jane Kaushik (Transgender Rights Enforcement)<\/span> v. Union of India<\/span>, (2026) 1 SCC 336<\/a>, a writ petition concerning enforceability of Rights of transgender persons under Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019<\/a>, against private parties, a Division Bench of J.B. Pardiwala and R. Mahadevan, JJ., appoints of Ms. Aparna Mehrotra to ensure continued Centre for Law and Policy Research (CLPR) representation on Advisory Committee on Transgender Rights.<\/p>\n

In Jane Kaushik (Transgender Rights Enforcement)<\/span> (Supra) the Supreme Court had constituted an Advisory Committee to assist the Court in matters concerning transgender rights. As part of that order, Ms. Nithya Rajshekhar was included as a member representing the CLPR. Subsequently, it came to light that Ms. Nithya Rajshekhar was no longer associated with the Centre, which gave rise to the present Miscellaneous Application.<\/p>\n

The Amicus Curiae filed the present application seeking directions to include Ms. Aparna Mehrotra, Senior Associate, Centre for Law and Policy Research, as a member of the Advisory Committee.<\/p>\n

The Court acknowledged the “extensive work undertaken by Ms. Nithya Rajshekhar with regard to the transgender rights” and found it appropriate that she continue as an additional member of the Advisory Committee notwithstanding her cessation of association with the Centre for Law and Policy Research.<\/p>\n

In the interest of the functioning of the Advisory Committee, the Court appointed Ms. Aparna Mehrotra, Senior Associate, Centre for Law and Policy Research, as a member of the Advisory Committee, to represent the Centre and its scholarship in the field of transgender rights.<\/p>\n
