About the College:<\/h3>\n

B.M.S. College of Law was established in the year 1963 by Sri. B.S. Narayan, Donor Trustee, BMSET, under the aegis of B.M. Sreenivasaiah Educational Trust. The Trust is named after Dharmaprakasha Rajakaryaprasaktha Sri. B.M. Sreenivasaiah, whose vision laid the foundation for the first private Engineering College in the State of Karnataka. The institution is affiliated with Karnataka State Law University, Hubballi and is approved by the Bar Council of India, New Delhi. The college offers B.A.LL.B., B.Com. LL.B., B.B.A.LL.B (5-Year Degree) and LL.B. (3-Year Degree) Courses. The Institution is accredited with a B++ Ranking by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).<\/p>\n

With an aim of imparting quality legal education, B.M.S. College of Law has a strong foundation and infrastructure with a highly qualified and dedicated team of faculty committed to providing a world-class learning experience. Eminent Alumni of the Institution form a strong professional network and work tirelessly to contribute back to the Institution. Apart from imparting legal education through the regular prescribed syllabus, the college is endeavouring to promote legal awareness, particularly about contemporary issues including intellectual property rights, consumer welfare schemes, and women’s rights among the general public through the activities undertaken by various cells and committees including National Moot Court Competition and other academic activities. The college also regularly organises legal awareness programs, public lectures, walkathons, cleanliness drives, charity drives and other community-based extension activities.<\/p>\n

Karnataka State Legal Services Authority is a Statutory Body constituted under a Central Legislation, “Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987<\/a>“. Hon’ble the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India is the Patron-in-Chief of the National Legal Services Authority. The Senior Judge of the Supreme Court of India is the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority. Hon’ble the Chief Justice of the High Court of Karnataka is the Patron-in-Chief of Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, Bangalore. Sr. Judge of the High Court of Karnataka is the Executive Chairman of Karnataka State Legal Services Authority.<\/p>\n

The Chief Justice of India is the Patron-in-Chief of the National Legal Services Authority. The Chief Justice, High Court of Karnataka, is the Patron-in-Chief of Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, Bengaluru and the Senior-most Judge, High Court of Karnataka, is the Executive Chairman of Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, Bengaluru. State Legal Services Authority is working through the Member Secretary and monitoring and guiding the District Legal Services Authorities and Taluka Legal Services Committees in the State in achieving the aims and objectives of the Act. There are 30 District Legal Services Authorities in the State of Karnataka. 150 Taluka Legal Services Committees are functioning under District Legal Services Authorities in the State. District Legal Services Authority is headed by the Principal District & Sessions Judge as Chairman, Sr. Civil Judge cadre Officer or Principal CJM of the District as the Member Secretary. Taluka Legal Services Committees are headed by the jurisdictional Principal Senior Civil Judge as Chairman and the Principal Civil Judge as the Member Secretary. There are three High Court Legal Services Committees i.e., at Bengaluru, Dharwad and Kalaburagi, which are chaired by the sitting Judge of the High Court of Karnataka. The general public who need any legal help \/ legal aid may contact the concerned Taluka Legal Services Committee \/ District Legal Services Authority, High Court Legal Services Committees or Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, as the case may be.<\/p>\n

Karnataka State Legal Services Authority has 17 official Members which include the Principal Secretary, Dept. of Law, Finance Secretary, IGP, Registrar General of High Court of Karnataka etc., Apart from the above State Authority has 11 nominated Members who have experience in the field of Law, Finance, Social Service or Administration and who are engaged in the upliftment of the weaker sections of the society, including Schedule Castes, Schedule Tribes, Women, Children, rural and Urban Labour and who are interested in the implementation of the Legal Service Schemes.<\/p>\n

The Constitution is considered to be a transformative document which aims to fundamentally reshape Indian society, moving away from a hierarchical structure towards an egalitarian and democratic one. Over the past 75 years, the Indian Constitution has not only been a blueprint for governance but also a dynamic instrument of social change. As India stands at the threshold of transformative social, technological, and environmental change, envisioning how the Constitution will guide the nation towards justice, equality, and progress by 2050<\/span><\/span> becomes both a necessity and an opportunity for reflection.<\/span><\/p>\n

The National Conference on “India’s Constitution in Action: A Vision for 2050” aims to provide a forward-looking platform for scholars, policymakers, jurists, and students to reflect upon the evolving role of the Indian Constitution in an era of rapid transformation. The conference seeks to generate actionable ideas, policy innovations, and reform blueprints that will help ensure the Constitution remains a dynamic and living document, one that continues to uphold justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity while adapting to emerging realities.<\/p>\n

By 2050, India is expected to face unprecedented technological disruptions through artificial intelligence, digital governance, and automation; complex social transitions driven by urbanisation, migration, and changing family structures; and economic shifts influenced by globalisation, climate change, and resource sustainability. The conference, therefore, envisions a holistic dialogue that examines how constitutional principles can guide governance, lawmaking, and citizen rights in this new landscape.<\/p>\n

The deliberations will focus on themes such as constitutional morality and institutional accountability, the balance between rights and responsibilities in a digital society, federalism and decentralisation in a data-driven age, and the judiciary’s evolving role in safeguarding constitutionalism.
