National Human Rights Commission<\/span>: On 22-10-2025, the National Human Rights Commission (‘NHRC’) took suo motu<\/span> cognizance of a media report regarding the death of a differently abled RTI activist in Tharad district, Gujarat. The victim was reportedly abducted by unidentified persons from an area near his residence on 12-10-2025, and his dead body was subsequently found in a canal on 14-10-2025.<\/p>\n

According to the media report, carried on 15-10-2025, the victim had previously filed complaints with the authorities regarding alleged forged beneficiary documents and other irregularities by local builders in a slum redevelopment project under the Public-Private Partnership scheme.<\/p>\n

The NHRC observed that the contents of the news report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of the human rights of the victim. Therefore, it has issued a notice to the Director General of Police, Gujarat, calling for a detailed report on the matter within two weeks.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
