The Departmental Lecture Program of the students of the Faculty of Law, University of Lucknow, Second Campus, was successfully conducted on 11th October 2025. The session featured an enlightening lecture by Dr. Lalit Kishore Srivastava, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Law, University of Lucknow, on the topic “New Dimension of Adoption Law in India.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Srivastava delivered an engaging and insightful address, wherein he beautifully bridged the gap between classical and modern aspects of adoption law. Referring to several provisions under Hindu Law, Muslim Law, and the Adoption Law, he provided a clear and comprehensive understanding of the various dimensions surrounding the concept of adoption in India. He emphasized that judicial activism and evolving social norms have contributed significantly to shaping new perspectives in this field.<\/p>\n

Highlighting the evolution of women’s rights in adoption, Dr. Srivastava pointed out that women had no legal right to adopt a child prior to 1956. However, with the enactment of the Hindu Adoptions and Maintenance Act, 1956, and through progressive judicial interpretation, this right was eventually conferred upon them. Citing several landmark judgments of the Supreme Court of India, both historical and recent, he illustrated how the legal framework of adoption continues to evolve. Despite these advancements, he noted, multiple challenges still persist in ensuring a smooth and equitable adoption process across the nation.<\/p>\n

The event was graced by the Head and Dean, Faculty of Law, Prof. (Dr.) Ramesh Kumar Verma, along with Dr. Bhanu Pratap Singh (Faculty Coordinator), Dr. Rupam Lal, Dr. Chandrasen Pratap Singh, and other esteemed faculty and committee members, whose presence added great value to the program. The session concluded with an interactive discussion and a vote of thanks, marking it as an intellectually enriching experience for all attendees.<\/p>\n
