Indian Society of International Law (ISIL) is a leading national body founded in 1959 by a late V.K. Krishna Menon with the object of teaching, research and promotion of international law. The Society has gained a niche in the international community of international legal scholars in the last six decades, through the leadership and contributions of such great jurists, judges, and academicians like Judge Nagendra Singh, Justice R.S. Pathak, Prof. R.P. Anand, and Dr. P. Chandrasekhara Rao, among many others. ISIL remains a leading platform under the present leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha, to promote the international legal thinking in India and beyond.<\/p>\n

About the Symposium<\/h3>\n

The International Symposium on Changing Global Order in South Asia: Balancing Sovereignty, Security, and Human Rights<\/span> seeks to foster dialogue and scholarship on the evolving geopolitical, legal, and socio-economic challenges shaping South Asia today. As the region navigates shifting global alliances, contested sovereignties, and human rights imperatives, the symposium aims to bring together academicians, practitioners, policy experts, researchers, and students to critically reflect on emerging narratives, frameworks, and possibilities for regional stability and cooperation.<\/p>\n

South Asia remains at the crossroads of historical legacies, contemporary security dilemmas, and the aspirations of its diverse peoples. The rapidly shifting global order has intensified the tension between sovereignty and the demands of international law, as well as between state security and human rights obligations.<\/p>\n

This symposium intends to explore how South Asian states negotiate these tensions—whether through diplomacy, law, or institutional innovation. Questions arise: How do nations protect sovereignty while engaging with global governance structures? What are the costs of prioritizing national security over human rights? Can there be a balance between collective regional security and individual freedoms?<\/p>\n

The theme invites contributions that examine South Asia as both a site of contestation and collaboration, addressing issues that cut across international law, security studies, human rights discourse, and global politics.<\/p>\n
