The Faculty of Law, University of Lucknow organised a Special Lecture on “Noise Pollution: Law and Remedies”<\/span> on 13th September, 2025. The lecture was delivered by Prof. Rajeev Singh Rathi, an eminent scholar of law known for his expertise in Family Law, Company Law, Business Law, and environment-related legislations. Prof. Rathi pursued his LL.B. from MJP Rohilkhand University in 1998 and completed his LL.M. in 2002, and since then has made noteworthy contributions in the field of legal education and research.<\/p>\n

In his lecture, Prof. Rathi addressed the contemporary challenges of noise pollution, which has emerged as a critical yet often neglected environmental issue in modern society. He began by explaining the concept of noise pollution and its growing impact on urban life, health, and ecological balance. He highlighted the physiological and psychological consequences of excessive noise, ranging from hearing impairment and stress-related illnesses to reduced efficiency and social disharmony.<\/p>\n

From a legal perspective, Prof. Rathi elaborated on the statutory framework in India, particularly provisions under the Environment Protection Act, the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, and various directives issued by the judiciary to curb noise levels. He also discussed landmark judgments that have shaped the jurisprudence in this field, providing clarity on the scope of remedies available to affected individuals and communities.<\/p>\n

Prof. Rathi emphasized the dual role of the State and the citizen in addressing the menace of noise pollution. While law provides the necessary framework, enforcement agencies, educational institutions, and individuals must act responsibly to ensure compliance. He urged students of law to spread awareness, advocate sustainable practices, and engage with the community to strengthen environmental protection.<\/p>\n

The lecture was deeply appreciated by the Head and Dean of Faculty, Prof. Ramesh Kumar Verma, who commended Prof. Rathi’s insightful analysis and thought-provoking deliberation. The event concluded with an interactive session, where students actively engaged with questions, gaining valuable perspectives on the intersection of law, society, and environment.<\/p>\n
