{"id":359734,"date":"2025-09-11T10:00:33","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T04:30:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=359734"},"modified":"2025-09-15T11:43:04","modified_gmt":"2025-09-15T06:13:04","slug":"chh-hc-takes-suo-motu-cognizance-of-dilapidated-police-quarters-raipur","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2025\/09\/11\/chh-hc-takes-suo-motu-cognizance-of-dilapidated-police-quarters-raipur\/","title":{"rendered":"Chhattisgarh HC takes suo motu cognizance of dilapidated Police quarters in Raipur; Seeks Police Housing corporation\u2019s response"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: 150%;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Chhattisgarh High Court:<\/span> In a suo motu writ petition registered regarding a news article related to dilapidated Police quarters in Raipur, the Division Bench of Ramesh Sinha, CJ., and Bibhu Datta Guru, J., sought an affidavit from the Managing Director, Police Housing Corporation, Civil Line, Raipur (&#8216;Police Housing Corporation MD&#8217;), on the matter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">A news article was published in Dainik Bhaskar on 07-09-2025, stating that the Police quarters located in Amanaka, Raipur, consisting of 24 houses, had become completely dilapidated. The condition was such that the stairs leading to the terrace broke and fell, whereas poles supported the stairs leading to the first floor. Around 20 families were living there at the mercy of God.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The report further revealed that earlier, when the stairs broke and fell, the Municipal Corporation staff visited, removed the debris, and declared the police quarter as dilapidated. However, the dilapidated houses had neither been vacated nor demolished. In the two blocks where the Constables and Head Constables lived, new houses had not been built for about 6 years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The report further stated that Rs. 10 Crores had been sanctioned to improve the dilapidated houses and a plan of Rs. 400 Crores had been prepared and sent for the new houses. However, no action had been taken to construct the new houses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">Taking suo motu cognizance of the matter, the Court directed the Police Housing Corporation&#8217;s MD to file an affidavit regarding the news item.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The matter was listed for 17-09-2025.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">[<span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #632423;\">In the Matter of Suo Moto Public Interest Litigation v.
