On 4-9-2025, the Bureau of Indian Standards (‘BIS’)<\/span> introduced Hallmarking Unique Identification (HUID)<\/span>– based hallmarking for silver jewelry and articles<\/span> on a voluntary basis with effect from 1-9-2025 to help consumers ensure the purity of metal while purchasing.<\/p>\n

All you need to know about hallmarking of silver jewelry:<\/h3>\n
    \n
  1. \n

    It was introduced in October 2005.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    The jewelers selling silver jewelry were granted certificate of registration in accordance with IS 2112.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. \n

    The publication of IS 2112:2025 replaced the earlier version of IS 2112:2014.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Effects of revision:<\/h3>\n

    1. \n

      The revision has introduced Hallmarking Unique Identification (HUID) enhancing traceability.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    2. \n

      The revision also aligns with hallmarking of gold jewelry.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
