Delhi High Court:<\/span> A group of 94 Advocates<\/span> practicing in Delhi High Court, have written a letter to the Chief Justice of India expressing their protest at the Supreme Court Collegium’s recommendation\/proposal to transfer Justice Tara Vitasta Ganju<\/span> from Delhi High Court to Karnataka High Court. The letter further requested the CJI to reconsider this recommendation for transfer.<\/p>\n

On 27-8-2025, the Supreme Court of India notified the Collegium’s decision to recommend transfer\/repatriation of 14 Judges<\/a>, including Justice Tara Vitasta Ganju.<\/p>\n

The High Court advocates urged that Justice Tara Vitasta Ganju has served the Bar for 30 years with an unblemished record. As a Judge, she has maintained an exceptional record in judicial performance, consistency in delivering justice and unwavering dedication, integrity and fairness. The letter further stated that Justice Tara Vitasta has achieved one of the highest disposal rates, with approximately 90% of listed cases being effectively disposed of, thereby directly contributing to reducing pendency and enhancing the justice delivery system. Furthermore, the letter stated that she has delivered judgements on diverse jurisprudences, such as commercial matters, rent revisions, labour matters, arbitration appeals, etc., and due to her commitment and efficiency, the Rent Revision Roster has been streamlined from two courts to one. The letter further emphasised that Justice Tara Vitasta Ganju has demonstrated a strong commitment to mentoring and promoting young lawyers, often encouraging newly enrolled members of the Bar in the courtroom.<\/p>\n

Therefore, expressing their concerns and emphasising that the principles of judicial independence, merit-based advancement and recognition of judicial excellence should ideally be the guiding parameters, the High Court advocates thus sought reconsideration and review of the Collegium’s proposal to transfer Justice Tara Vitasta Ganju from Delhi to Karnataka High Court.<\/p>\n

Further on 2-9-2025, women advocates of Delhi High Court Bar Association, wrote a separate letter to the CJI registering their protest at the proposal to transfer Justice Tara Vitasta Ganju. The letter, which included the names of 66 women lawyers<\/span>, highlighted the “wider issue of lack of transparency on the matter of transfers that lead to frenzied rumour mills that do a disservice on the issue of institutional integrity”<\/span>. The letter emphasised that frequent transfers of the Delhi High Court Judges is undermining the confidence of the Bar, who have nurtured fine judges in the ethos of our own unique traditions. The letter further requested<\/span> transparent transfer procedures, that would help improve the institutional integrity.<\/span> Earlier on 1-9-2025, the Delhi High Court Bar Association, also wrote a letter addressing the CJI and members of the Collegium expressing concerns about the frequent transfers of Delhi High Court Judges.<\/p>\n
