National Human Rights Commission:<\/span> On 23-06-2025, the National Human Rights Commission (\u2018NHRC\u2019) took suo motu cognizance of a media report highlighting an incident on 15-06-2025 where a 20-year-old female college student was allegedly subjected to gang rape by approximately 10 men on the Gopalpur sea beach of Ganjam District in Odisha. The report indicated that the victim had gone to the beach with a male friend to celebrate a festival when the perpetrators overpowered her friend and sexually assaulted her.<\/p>\n

The Commission noted that if the contents of the media report were true, it raised a serious issue of human rights violations. Consequently, it issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police, Odisha, requesting a detailed report on the matter within two weeks. The report is expected to cover the status of the investigation, the victim\u2019s health, and any compensation or counseling provided to her by the state authorities.<\/p>\n

According to the continued media report dated 16-06-2025, the victim has been admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for medical examination, and the police have detained seven suspects in connection with the case.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
