National Human Rights Commission:<\/span> On 16-06-2025, the National Human Rights Commission (‘NHRC’) took suo motu<\/span> cognizance of a media report from 16-06-2025 aon n incident in Narayanapuram village, Kuppam mandal, Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh, highlighting how a woman was publicly tied to a tree and beaten by a moneylender, allegedly because her husband failed to repay the loan. Villagers reportedly freed her.<\/p>\n

The NHRC noted that if the contents of the press release about the public beating of the woman tied to the tree were true, it raised a serious issue of violation of human rights. It, hence, issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police, Andhra Pradesh, calling for a detailed report within two weeks.<\/p>\n

According to the continued media report dated 17-06-2025, the victim’s husband had borrowed Rs. 80,000 from a local moneylender approximately three years prior but could not repay it. He also took loans from other villagers. Unable to repay his debts, he left the village. Since his departure, his wife has been supporting herself and their three children through daily wage work and has been repaying the loans in installments.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
