On 18-6-2025, the Ministry of Finance, Department of Financial Service<\/span> introduced \u2018Unified Pension Scheme (UPS)\u2019<\/span> to extend the pension benefits and retirement gratuity and death gratuity benefits to the employees of Central Government under the National Pension System<\/span> (NPS).<\/p>\n

Key updates of the\u00a0Unified Pension Scheme:<\/h3>\n
    \n
  1. \n

    As notified earlier by the Ministry, on 24-1-2025, the Central Government employees covered under the NPS<\/span> will be granted a one-time option<\/span> to opt for the UPS<\/span> to enhance social security for such employees.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    This option is available to recruits who enter Central Government service<\/span> with effect from 1-4-2025<\/span>, allowing them to be included under the UPS framework at the time of joining.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. \n

    Employees exercising the UPS option will now be eligible for retirement gratuity and death gratuity<\/span> according to the provisions of CCS (Payment of Gratuity under NPS) Rules, 2021<\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  4. \n

    Following this initiative, the Department of Pension and Pensioners\u2019 Welfare<\/span> issued a clarification regarding these provisional changes through an Office Memorandum on 18-6-2025<\/span>, further affirming the eligibility of the employees for gratuity benefits.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  5. \n

    This move brings UPS benefits closer to those of the Old Pension Scheme<\/span>, addressing long-standing concerns over equity in retirement coverage.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
