{"id":349421,"date":"2025-06-02T19:30:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-02T14:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=349421"},"modified":"2025-06-02T19:25:01","modified_gmt":"2025-06-02T13:55:01","slug":"nhrc-takes-suo-motu-cognizance-minor-rape-victims-death-pmch-due-to-delay-in-treatment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2025\/06\/02\/nhrc-takes-suo-motu-cognizance-minor-rape-victims-death-pmch-due-to-delay-in-treatment\/","title":{"rendered":"NHRC takes suo motu cognizance of minor rape victim\u2019s death at Patna Medical College and Hospital Bihar due to delay in treatment"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: 150%;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">National Human Rights Commission:<\/span> On 02-06-2025, the National Human Rights Commission (\u2018NHRC\u2019) took suo motu cognizance of the reported death of a minor victim of rape and brutal physical assault due to alleged delayed treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital (\u2018PMCH\u2019), Bihar.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">In a press release published by the Press Information Bureau (\u2018PIB\u2019), this action was taken after the NHC came across a media report stating that on 01-05-2025, a nine-year-old girl victim of rape and brutal physical assault died at the PMCH. There were allegations that she was left waiting in an ambulance for several hours before getting a bed for her treatment. She was allegedly victimised in Muzaffarpur on 26-05-2025 and brought to the hospital in a critical condition on 30-05-2025.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">Furthermore, according to the media report, the same perpetrator had earlier committed the same offence with another 12 year-old-girl and had attempted to kill her.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The NHRC noted that if the contents of the news report of minor rape victim&#8217;s death were true, it raised a serious issue of violation of human rights. Therefore, it issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police, Bihar, calling for a detailed report within two weeks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\"><span
