On 28-1-2025, the Delhi Government notified the Procedure for investigation to be followed by an officer in-charge of Police Station, Rules 2024<\/span> to give police officers a clear guideline on how to conduct investigations. The provisions came into force on 28-1-2025.<\/p>\n

Key Points:<\/h3>\n
    \n
  1. \n

    The General Diary Report (‘Diary’)<\/span> will be maintained by the officer in charge of the Police station.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    The main purpose of maintaining such Diary is to document cases where the officer decides that no investigation is needed based on Section 176<\/a> of Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023<\/a> which relates to “Procedure for investigation”<\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. \n

    This Diary will consist of the following offences:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • \n

      When an officer deems it is unnecessary to go to the spot or send a subordinate officer to investigate.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      When the officer thinks that there is no sufficient ground to proceed with investigations.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      The Diary will have to be maintained on Crime and Criminal Tracking Networks and Systems (‘CCTNS’).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      In case where te officer decides that no further investigation is required, he will have to convey the same to the informant immediately through electronic mode.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      The following details have to be given on CCTNS:<\/p>\n

      • \n

        Name of informant;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Contact details;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Present and permanent address:<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Brief of information;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Reasons for not proceeding to investigate;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Whether informant notified;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n
