The provisions came into force on 3-1-2025.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The regulations <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">repeal<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink.aspx?q=JTXT-9000801395\" target=\"_blank\">Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (&#8216;IRDAI&#8217;) (Regulatory Sandbox) Regulations, 2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Key Points:<\/h3>\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\">\n<li>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Objectives:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>\n<p>Facilitate innovation in the insurance sector;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Ensure orderly development of insurance sector;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Protect interest of policyholders;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Facilitate creation of regulatory sandbox environment;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Application for grant of permission for promoting innovation in insurance in India:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>\n<p>Anyone who desires to promote\/ implement innovation in insurance will have to make an application to the Competent Authority electronically.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>A non- refundable fee has to be paid along with the application.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Eligible criteria will be laid down by the Competent Authority.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Competent Authority will also lay down the parameter for the experimentation stage of regulatory sandbox, liabilities and responsibilities of the applicant who is granted permission.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\">The permission granted by the Competent Authority will be valid for an experiment period if the following eligibility criteria is met by the applicant and the application:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>\n<p>promotes innovation beneficial to insurance sector in India;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>is in the interest of the policyholders;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>is conducive for the orderly growth of the industry;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>will promote increase in insurance penetration in the country;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>bring in efficiency in insurance business;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>promotes ease of doing insurance business.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Revocation of permission:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>\n<p>If the activities carried out does not fulfill the eligibility criteria;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>If the activities are in violation of:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink.aspx?q=JTXT-0002817005\" target=\"_blank\">Insurance Act, 1938<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>IRDAI Act,
