Gauhati High Court:<\/span> The Division Bench of Vijay Bishnoi, CJ.<\/span>, and Kardak Ete, J., after noting that till date no response had been filed on behalf of the Departments on the problem of water logging in the Guwahati city, granted one more opportunity, in the interest of justice, to the Departments to file their response with the condition that each Department shall pay a cost of Rs 1,000.<\/p>\n

The Court, on 03-06-2024, noted that response on behalf of the State of Assam through the Additional Chief Secretary, Forest & Environment Department, Assam, Principal Secretary to the Government of Assam, Revenue and Disaster Management Department, Chief Executive Officer, Assam Disaster Management Authority and the Divisional Forest Officer, Kamrup Division was not filed, even though 10 days’ time was granted to file counter, on behalf of the said Departments.<\/p>\n

The Court stated that petitioner had raised a serious issue regarding water logging in Guwahati, which was persisting since long. The Court opined that the Departments were not serious in solving the problem of water logging in Guwahati, as despite specific time granted to them, no response had been filed till date.<\/p>\n

Thus, the Court stated that each Department shall pay a cost of Rs 1,000, with the Gauhati High Court Legal Services Authority.<\/p>\n
