Patna High Court:<\/span> In a Public Interest Litigation challenging the Bihar Reservation (for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Back Classes) (Amendment) Act, 2023, and the Bihar (in admission in educational institutions) Reservation (Amendment) Act, 2023 (‘Amendments’) passed by the Legislature of Bihar in 2023 to increase the reservation for Backward Classes, Extremely Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes from 50% to 65%, the Division Bench of K. Vinod Chandran, CJ and Harish Kumar, J. set aside the said Amendments.<\/p>\n

Through these Amendments the quota for Scheduled Castes was increased to 20%; for Scheduled Tribes to 2%; extremely backward castes to 25% and for other Backward Classes to 18%, making it to 65% which exceeded the limit of 50%.<\/p>\n
