On 17-05-2024, the Supreme Court Collegium comprising of Dr Justice DY Chandrachud, the Chief Justice of India, Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice BR Gavai resolved to recommend the appointment of 2 Additional Judges of Gauhati High Court as Permanent Judges and extension of term of Additional Judge of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.<\/p>\n

The Supreme Court began this month with a reduced strength of 33 Judges as against 34 Judges due to the retirement of Justice Aniruddha Bose<\/a> in April 2024. However, in May 2024, the number of Judges in the Supreme Court dwindled further to 32 as Justice A.S. Bopanna retired on 18-05-2024 right before the commencement of summer vacations from 20-05-2024.<\/p>\n
