{"id":323492,"date":"2024-06-03T16:00:30","date_gmt":"2024-06-03T10:30:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=323492"},"modified":"2024-06-07T12:03:11","modified_gmt":"2024-06-07T06:33:11","slug":"mnrega-corruption-mp-high-court-issues-notice-to-collector-for-not-taking-action-after-investigation-scc-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2024\/06\/03\/mnrega-corruption-mp-high-court-issues-notice-to-collector-for-not-taking-action-after-investigation-scc-times\/","title":{"rendered":"Corruption in MNREGA | MP High Court issues notice to Collector for not taking action after investigation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: 150%;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Madhya Pradesh High Court:<\/span> In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by petitioner regarding corruption in the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) scheme in Damoh district, specifically in the panchayats of Hata, Patera, and Jabera, a division bench comprising of Sheel Nagu, ACJ., and Amar Nath (Kesharwani), J., took cognizance of the inaction on the corruption findings in the MNREGA scheme and issued notice seeking an explanation from the responsible authorities<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The petitioner alleged that technical approvals for projects were not given in a single instance but section-by-section, leading to the presentation of inflated and absurd bills for materials used. An investigation by the Commissioner of the MP Rajya Rojgar Guarantee Commission confirmed the corruption allegations and submitted a report on 04-08-2023, instructing the Collector to take action. Despite the investigative report, no action was taken by the Collector.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The Court issued a notice to the Damoh Collector and the District Panchayat CEO to respond to the allegations and the inaction on the investigative report. The Court directed the counsel for the State to seek instructions from the concerned officer regarding the inaction.
