{"id":319062,"date":"2024-04-01T14:15:31","date_gmt":"2024-04-01T08:45:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=319062"},"modified":"2024-04-01T15:05:02","modified_gmt":"2024-04-01T09:35:02","slug":"sc-issues-notice-to-up-govt-over-faulty-cctv-cameras-in-court-where-gaurav-bhatia-was-assaulted-legal-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2024\/04\/01\/sc-issues-notice-to-up-govt-over-faulty-cctv-cameras-in-court-where-gaurav-bhatia-was-assaulted-legal-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Assault on Gaurav Bhatia in District Court | SC issues notice to Uttar Pradesh Govt. over non-functional CCTV Cameras"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: 150%;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Supreme Court:<\/span> The three Judge Bench comprising of Dr. DY Chandrachud, CJI., JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, JJ. issued notice to the State of Uttar Pradesh over non-maintenance of CCTV cameras in the in the Gautam Budh Nagar District Court where Senior Advocate Gaurav Bhatia and a young female lawyer was manhandled.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The Court on perusal of the report submitted before the Bench noted that the CCTV Cameras in the premises where the alleged assault took place were not functional despite repeated letters. Previously, the Court had sought a report from the District Judge and directed for the preservation of the CCTV footage in safe custody. The Court noted that the report mentioned that the CCTV footage could not be preserved due to non-functionality of the cameras.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">Considering the matter as serious, the Court took suo motu cognizance of the incident where Senior Advocate Gaurav Bhatia was physically manhandled. Senior Advocate and Bharatiya Janata Party&#8217;s spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia was physically manhandled in the Gautam Budh Nagar District Court by a lawyer when a strike was called out. It was submitted before the Court that Senior Advocate Bhatia was appearing in a matter and when he was informed that strike was called out for the day, he intended to seek an adjournment in the matter. However, the lawyers misbehaved with him and snatched his band. When the strike was called out a young female lawyer was also manhandled and was asked to take off her advocate&#8217;s band and pushed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">[<span
