CAA and Rules framed thereunder aim to grant citizenship to Hindus, Jains, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Parsis who arrived in India on or before 31-12-2014, from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.<\/p>\n

Supreme Court:<\/span> In pleas filed seeking a stay on the recently notified Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024 which effectively brought into force the Citizenship Amendment Act of 2019<\/a> (‘CAA’), the three-Judge bench of Dr. DY Chandrachud, CJI, JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, JJ, issued notice to the Centre and asked it to file its reply.<\/p>\n

The Central government notified<\/a> the rules last week, on 11-03-2024, which effectively brought into force the CAA, which aims to grant citizenship to Hindus, Jains, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Parsis who arrived in India on or before 31-12-2014, from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.<\/p>\n

The matter will next be taken upon 09-04-2024.<\/p>\n
