{"id":317799,"date":"2024-03-19T17:30:03","date_gmt":"2024-03-19T12:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=317799"},"modified":"2024-03-21T10:53:45","modified_gmt":"2024-03-21T05:23:45","slug":"delhi-high-court-amends-rules-for-designation-of-senior-advocates-legal-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2024\/03\/19\/delhi-high-court-amends-rules-for-designation-of-senior-advocates-legal-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Delhi High Court amends Rules for Designation of Senior Advocates"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: 150%;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">On 14-03-2024, the Delhi High Court amended Chapter 6 Part L, Volume V of High Court Rules, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink.aspx?q=JTXT-0001587359\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">7<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink.aspx?q=JTXT-0002852200\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Delhi High Court Act, 1966<\/a>, Section <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink.aspx?q=JTXT-0001543807\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">16(2)<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink.aspx?q=JTXT-0002806286\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Advocates Act, 1961<\/a> and all other powers enabling it in this behalf. The official notification provided that the Rules shall be called the High Court of Delhi Designation of Senior Advocate Rules, 2024.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Permanent Committee<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">A Permanent Committee, known as \u2018Committee for Designation of Senior Advocates\u2019 shall deal with all the matters relating to designation of Senior Advocates by the High Court.<\/p>\n<p>Composition of the Permanent Committee:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt; text-indent: -18pt;\">(a) Chief Justice &#8211; Chairperson of the Permanent Committee<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt; text-indent: -18pt;\">(b) Two Senior most Judges of the High Court &#8211; Members<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt; text-indent: -18pt;\">(c) Additional Solicitor General (Delhi High Court) &#8211; Member<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt; text-indent: -18pt;\">(d) To be nominated by the Administrative Committee of the High Court out of the names of three Senior Advocates given by the Government of NCT of Delhi &#8211; Member<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt; text-indent: -18pt; margin-bottom: 3%;\">(e) A member of the Bar nominated by the above.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Eligibility Conditions for designation as Senior Advocate<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">A person must have practiced as an Advocate at the Bar for not less than 10 years and is enrolled with the Bar Council constituted under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/DocumentLink.aspx?q=JTXT-0002806286\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Advocates Act, 1961<\/a>. The Advocate must have practiced mainly in the High Court and the Courts Subordinate to it.
