In light of International Women’s Day<\/span>, the Gender Studies Committee at School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) presents its 1st Policy Hackathon<\/span> to accommodate the reproductive rights of gender minorities at the workplace, with the esteemed labour and employment of a tier 1 law firm<\/span> as its jury.<\/p>\n

About School of Law, Christ University<\/p>\n

School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), through its five-year law Program, has carved a space for itself in the top league of premier law schools in India. The school moulds its students through a combination of exposure to the advanced syllabus, clinical legal education programs, and faculty-monitored participation in curricular and extra-curricular activities. The syllabus for the five-year program goes far beyond the basic requirements of the Bar Council of India, reflecting the current trends and demands of academia and the industry. Besides having a league of highly qualified faculty, the educational process is supported by a library equipped with a rich depository of online and offline resources. The School of Law strives to work with an untiring commitment to the cause of rule of law and the promotion of excellence in the realm of legal education in India.<\/p>\n

About the Gender Studies Committee<\/p>\n

Dysphoria, and dysmorphia expansively envelop human beings across the lines of gender, caste, class, creed, colour and every other possible division you can think of in this diverse, diverse world. Most of the time, it isn’t like we’re completely and utterly lost, either. We know conditioning happens, and we also know how subtle it can be. At the Gender Studies Committee, we attempt to undo this entrenched gendered conditioning. The Gender Studies Committee is not merely a committee and has transcended to become a community of broad-minded and forward-thinking individuals, engaged in an analysis of the underlying socio-cultural factors that influence the way we think, rationalise and behave. Through the years, we have organised lectures, panels, reading circles, open forums, et cetera to engage in critical thinking and attempt to create safe, holistic and equal spaces within law school.<\/p>\n

About the Policy Hackathon<\/p>\n

As Katherine O’Donnovon rightly recognises- for gender minorities, despite having broken the glass ceiling, to achieve formal equality, they must enter the marketplace as if they are men<\/span>. The workplace also treats them like one homogenous entity- without space for accommodations for their individualities. The Competition, thus, requires the participants to draft a model policy<\/span> on reproductive health for institutions to implement, setting a standard for inclusivity and equity and will require drafters to incorporate menstrual leave, abortion and gender-affirming care, among others, for corporate companies, institutions and organisations. The Hackathon will take place virtually<\/span>, and submissions are accepted from all undergraduate<\/span> students of law, policy and other relevant social science backgrounds.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cognizant of a commitment to excellence, the Labour and Employment team at a tier 1 law firm<\/span> will act as jury for the Hackathon and will assess the submissions received and determine the winners. The winning team will be considered for an internship at the firm, subject to its policy.<\/p>\n

Please note that the registration fee is Rs. 500\/-<\/span> per team. Students may either participate individually or in teams consisting of two (2)<\/span> members. Further note that submissions are open to students from across departments and campuses of Christ University as well.<\/p>\n

Important Dates (Revised):<\/p>\n

Last date to register<\/span> for the Hackathon: 5th March, 2024<\/span> (Register here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Last date to submit<\/span> the policy: 15th March, 2024<\/span><\/p>\n

Results will be announced on the 25th March, 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prizes:<\/p>\n

1st<\/span> Place: Rs. 9,000<\/p>\n

2nd<\/span> Place: Rs. 6,000<\/p>\n

3rd<\/span> Place: Rs. 3,000<\/p>\n

The top 10 submissions will receive certificates of merit recognising the same, while all the participants will receive certificates of participation. Further, the winning team may be considered for an internship at a tier 1 law firm<\/span>, subject to the Firm’s policy.<\/p>\n
