Supreme Court:<\/span> In a petition filed by the defeated Chandigarh Mayor candidate of Aam Aadmi Party – Kuldeep Kumar, challenging Punjab and Haryana High Court’s refusal to stay recent elections, a Bench comprising of Dr. DY Chandrachud, CJI, JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, JJ. ordered to sequester the entire record of Mayor elections to be kept with the High Court Registrar General, and to preserve the ballots and videography. The Bench further directed the Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh UT, having possession of the original records, to hand them over to the HC Registrar General today by 5 PM.<\/p>\n

The Bench also directed the meeting of Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh scheduled for 7-02-2024 to be deferred till further orders.<\/p>\n

As per reports, Dr. DY Chandrachud, CJI came down heavily for the actions of presiding officer of the recent Chandigarh Mayoral elections after watching the video of controversial election proceedings wherein, a candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was declared winner after declaring invalid the votes of 8 candidates of Congress-AAP Alliance.<\/p>\n
