Supreme Court:<\/span> In a petition under Article 32<\/a> of Constitution of India<\/a> challenging Uttar Pradesh Government’s ban on manufacture, sale, storage and distribution of halal-certified products, the Division Bench of B.R. Gavai and Sandeep Mehta, JJ. granted interim protection for the Chief Mahmood Madani and other office bearers of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind Halal Trust against any coercive action by the State and issued notice seeking Uttar Pradesh Government’s response.<\/p>\n

Last year in November, the Uttar Pradesh Government passed an order prohibiting\/banning the production, storage, distribution and sale of food products with a Halal tag with immediate effect.<\/p>\n

Recently, the Court had issued a notice to the Central as well as State Governments in pleas filed by Halal India Pvt. Ltd. and Jamiat Ulama-e-Maharashtra challenging the ban imposed by UP Government.<\/p>\n
